Apparatus Delivery Lists

P.E. Van Pelt

Van Pelt was the largest fire apparatus manufacturer in California. They built their first fire apparatus in 1925 and remained in operation until 1987. During the 63 years they were in business, they built approximately 3,200 rigs of all kinds. This delivery list has information on more than 2,980 Van Pelt rigs. 53 pages with extensive notes. $15.25

Beck

Beck began operations in California in 1978 and closed in 1992. During the brief time they were in operation, they built a little over 400 fire apparatus -- mostly pumpers, but also some aerials, tankers, rescues, and others. Many of their custom rigs used the stylish Ottawa cab and chassis. This list is based on official factory records. 8 pages with extensive notes. $4.00

Neep/Western States

Neep Equipment Company started selling fire apparatus in Oregon in 1940. Western States took over the operation in about 1956. This list was assembled by fire apparatus buff Jack Steidel from unofficial sources and is current up to 1992. Some of the handwritten notes may not be legible. 30 pages with extensive notes. $9.50

Yankee

The Yankee Motor Bodies Company of Los Angeles built a wide variety of fire apparatus starting in the 1930s -- most were delivered to departments in Southern California during the 1950s and 60s. Yankee also formed an alliance with Walter to build airport crash trucks, which were delivered nationally and internationally. 5 pages with extensive notes. $3.25

Seagrave in the West -- 1950 to 2004

Seagrave introduced their classic 70th Anniversary Series in 1951, followed by their early cabover K series in the late 1950s. This list includes more than 1,650 deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Utah during the period of 1950 to 2004. 35 pages with extensive notes. $10.75

American LaFrance in the West -- 1947 to 1991

American LaFrance introduced their 700 Series in 1947 and followed it with equally popular models through the early 1990s. This list includes more than 1,750 deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Utah during the period of 1947 to 1991. 35 pages with extensive notes. $10.75

Emergency One/E-ONE in the West -- 1974 to 2004

E-ONE entered the market with aluminum apparatus bodies at a time when most other manufacturers were still using steel. This list includes more than 950 deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Utah during the period of 1974 to 2004. 18 pages with notes. $6.50

Howe in the West -- 1909 to 1982

Howe shipped apparatus to departments all over the West. This list contains over 330 deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Idaho, and Utah during the period of 1909 to 1982 -- mostly from 1950 to 1981. 6 pages with notes. $3.50

[Sections from an Untitled Manual] for American LaFrance Chassis.

This consists of various sections relating to the operation, lubrication, and adjustment procedures for the clutch, brakes, steering gear, and Hydrovac brake booster, plus a chassis lubrication chart and a large-format wiring diagram for American LaFrance apparatus of the late-1950s to 1960-1961. Front Mounted Centrifugal Fire Pump -- Types UA, U, GF, GK, F

Published in 1954, but it covers pumps, power takeoffs, and primers back through the 1940s. It contains text, photos, line drawings, and parts lists. The reprint is a photocopy, and the quality of some photos may vary. 24 pages. $8.00

Lubrication, Care and Operation Manual for Hale Multi-Service Centrifugal Pumps

Spicer Heavy-Duty 6 Speed Transmission Service Manual

Pacific Pumper Model Y Instruction Manual and Parts List

Covers preparation for operation, starting, care, and repair parts for the popular Model (Type) Y portable pump widely used for forestry firefighting in the 1930s and 40s. Light Wagons

Los Angeles County Apparatus During World War II

(November 2007) Apparatus were scarce during World War II, and L.A. County obtained a mixture of off-spec new rigs, hand-me-downs, and home-made civil defense rigs. The results were interesting, if not beautiful. This 3-page article has 7 photos. 8 pages. $2.00 postpaid.

U.S. Forest Service Apparatus -- 1960s to 1970s
