SPAAMFAA was founded in 1958 at Syracuse, NY, with the purpose of preserving and displaying antique fire apparatus and promoting an appreciation of fire service history all across America.
In 1969, the SPAAMFAA board of directors conceived the idea of organizing
regional chapters in addition to the established National organization. On
Sept. 29, 1969, the California Chapter became only the second SPAAMFAA chapter
ever to be granted a charter, with Leonard Williams (still a Chapter member) as
the first president. The first-ever SPAAMFAA chapter,
in eastern Pennsylvania, has been disbanded and reorganized several times since,
making the California Chapter the oldest continuously operating chapter of
SPAAMFAA.
Both the California Chapter, and National SPAAMFAA, are non-profit
organizations.
Ownership of fire apparatus is not required for membership. As of September 1st, we have 336 paid members.
You can contact the chapter president, Will Radcliffe, at the chapter's email box, or the chapter editor, Chris Cavette.
